I Slipped Up 2021

The starting point for a journey of artworks responding to my mothers life in care

Words and language have become a key part of my practice. Without memory or photographs from our past we only have the voices and fragments of those we love to take with us. With only a few newspaper snippets of a family I never knew I wanted to make a work that gave form to a great sense of loss. These voices that shape your life disappear when you have no children of your own to pass them onto.  Exploring ideas about loss and responsibility of keeping life and experience of family alive.  Danger lurks in the abstraction as it continues to leave much unspoken.  It is not the specifics of the stories that matter, but what we care about that can give care to others.  I Slipped Up comes from a place of care and offers a refuge for care in the future.
